Tips for Mass at Home with your Family

A Post from Susan Breton…

Mass at home as a family is a great opportunity to grow in faith. Fr. Marc, Fr. Bart, Deacon Eric and the music ministry have been exceptional. The live streamed masses are excellent and the church looks beautiful, yet, for young children Mass on a screen can be a challenge. Parents can have a hard time keeping kids engaged when physically present and many kids are accustomed to attending Team Jesus each week. Here are a few tips to help engage kids each Sunday.

  1. As parents: call on The Holy Spirit to guide you. Each Sunday before mass pray for guidance.
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.
  2. Get dressed in your Sunday best.
  3. Set an Altar Table ~
Cover your dining room/kitchen table, coffee table or island with a tablecloth.
Holy Items for your home altar:

    • Candles
    • Crucifix
    • Bible
  4. Sing an Opening Song or play one from Itunes
  5. Live stream from St. Michael Parish or St. Mary Church. Mass schedule: https://stmichaelparish.org and https://www.stmarynh.org
  6. Follow along in a Mass book for kids:

    1. Read the Sunday Readings
      • If your children can read – have them read aloud
      • Use a children’s Bible – I recommend: St. Mary Press Children’s Bible (amazon)
    • Download Magnificat for Kids:HERE
  7. Mass Resources and Coloring for kids:

-An Act of Spiritual Communion Prayer
    My Jesus,
I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.
    Amen.
  10. After Mass, enjoy a special breakfast together or get donuts!
